ChatGPT Now Remembers Your Past Conversations To Give Personalised Replies: Know How

OpenAI has been on a roll, releasing new features and models one after another. And if you are a ChatGPT user, you must be aware that each conversation is new because the chatbot can’t retain details. But not anymore! The AI company rolled out a fresh update in April 2025 that allows ChatGPT to remember things.
Yes, you read that right. With this feature, the bot can now reference all the past chats to provide personalised responses, offering more relevant advice based on your preferences and interests saved with the chatbot.
In an official announcement on its X account, the company revealed that the AI bot can now remember information from previous chats—making it better at tailoring replies, offering advice, and helping out with anything from writing tasks to learning goals and beyond.
In addition to the saved memories that were there before, the new feature allows it to reference past chats to deliver responses that feel noticeably more relevant and useful. “New conversations naturally build upon what it already knows about you, making interactions feel smoother and uniquely tailored to you," the post read.
The tech giant also has an option for users who’d like to have a conversation without using or affecting memory. In the post, OpenAI stated that users can use temporary chat, which does not access or save any personal info.
It is worth noting that the memory improvements feature in ChatGPT is rolling out to all ChatGPT Plus and Pro users. Users in the EEA, UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, and Liechtenstein have to still wait to try this new feature. OpenAI further added that users on Team, Enterprise, and Education plans will get access to it over the next few weeks.
Altman also took to X to share insights into the making of GPT-4.5 and what’s on the horizon. “A lot of people were interested in how we made GPT-4.5 and what comes next," he wrote.
