Facebook Finally Gets Passkey Support For Easy Logins: How To Set Up And How It Works

Facebook is getting passkey support from Meta which makes it easy to login and you don’t have to remember passwords all the time. Passkeys have been around for a few years now with Apple and Google leading the charge and letting people use the biometric security features on their devices to sign into accounts. Meta is making passkey logins work for Facebook users on iOS and Android mobile devices with Messenger to get the support in the coming months.

Facebook Login With Passkeys: What It Offers

With so many digital accounts to manage, tech companies have sought passkeys to be the one-stop security option for logins. Google already gives you the option to protect your account, and use Face ID or fingerprint sensor to confirm the authenticity to the person using or trying to login. Facebook is going to offer the same solution for its users and Messenger will work through the same credentials when it is available later this year.

“They (passkeys) make it faster and easier than ever to log in to Facebook, no memorized password needed. All you’ll need is a compatible mobile device and a Facebook account," Facebook explains in a post. Meta also points out that passkeys are not just limited to logins, as you can use it for digital payments via Meta Pay and even protect the messages with encryption in Messenger later.

Facebook Passkey Login: How To Set It Up

Meta says setting up passkey for Facebook/Messenger involves quick steps:

Meta assures that none of your biometric data is collected or shared with the company. Messenger getting support for passkey seems logical and eventually you could even see it being used for Instagram, which is also a Meta product. The company also says that in case you move to a device without passkey support, the regular login methods like passwords will be usable to access the account.
