iPhone 17 Air Could Become Apple’s Gateway To First Port-Less iPhone: What It Means

Apple has looked at a future of iPhones without any ports for charging or data transfer. And it seems the rumoured iPhone 17 Air was also in its plans to change the dynamics, allowing the company to make a slimmer device. But reports say iPhone 17 Air could pave the way for the brand to conceptualise and design iPhones in the future without any ports.

Reports this week say Apple has already taken out quite a few features like physical SIM slot and going with a single rear camera. But it was also keen to ditch the ports for the Air iPhone model which it seems did not work out at least for now.

The Port-Less Future

The company has got patents for its devices that come without any ports which frees up the space of other software-tuned tools. However, these omissions also bring other changes, allowing Apple to slim down the device, which it seems will finally manage with the iPhone 17 Air model launching later this year.

There is a lot riding on the success of the iPhone 17 Air model, and the report suggests Apple will be keeping a close eye on its response and plan its future iPhone models based on the demand for slimmer devices. Having a port-less device also means the company will have to support faster wireless (or MagSafe) charging technology, or else the novelty of these designs will wear off quickly.

These changes are invariably going to hike the prices, which Apple is more than happy to continue doing, even though its Mac prices have moved in the right direction in the last few years.

The company is also planning for its first set of foldables in the next few years, which will also need some innovation to keep the devices slim. It is possible that brands like Samsung and Apple are bringing their slim phones because that’s where the industry is at this juncture as most of the hardware innovation seems incremental.
