Instagram Is Testing AI-Powered Comments That You Might Not Like: Know More About It

Instagram is part of the Meta group which means AI features are inevitable and the popular platform is now reportedly testing AI-powered comments for its users. Meta is putting its AI chatbot on overdrive and Instagram was obviously going to be part of its growth process.

Comments are a big part of Instagram and its users feel that as a personalised touch in the digital but the platform is now keen to push AI into creating comments which is never going to go down well with people.

AI Comments, Really?

Instagram trying out AI comments have been spotted by reliable tipster Jonah Manzano who shared the development via a post on X recently. He claims Instagram is testing the Write with Meta AI prompt on the platform which can be used to generate AI-powered comments that will be added to your friend’s post. The test feature is available to a select group of users which means Instagram is still not sure about releasing to a wider audience.

The feature kicks into action when the user taps on the pencil icon which is next to the text bar on Instagram. When you click on it, the Meta AI prompt will be visible and based on the image analysed by the AI model, it will give you multiple AI-generated comment options.

In case you don’t like any of the options, Meta AI will have a refresh feature to give you more comment suggestions. Meta seems clear about pushing its AI model into as many features as possible.

WhatsApp has become the de-facto platform for the new features, and Instagram was always going to be a close second, purely based on its traction and user base. Interestingly, Facebook has already got the guinea pig treatment for AI generated comments last year which means it could be set for a bigger push in 2025 or later.

Thankfully, Manzano does not have clarity on when the AI feature could become publicly available but going by its nature, most people would hope that never happens.
